So…Albert Haynesworth, one of the best DT in football, signed a huge deal with the Washington Redskins. It is one of the biggest contracts ever given to a defensive player. You would think a contract like this would make anyone happy. But…sometimes we underestimate how disconnected people can be with reality.
For, what I am sure is a number of reasons, Haynesworth is holding out. He is unhappy that Shanahan wants to move to a 3-4 defense and thus change his position on the field. Haynesworth, just 15 months or so after signing with the Redskins and taking a large majority of his contract money, wants a trade.
NFL Total Access on NFL Network ran the numbers on what Albert Haynesworth has already earned from the Washington Redskins. This is the money in his pocket:
$2.7 million per game
$8 million per sack
$864,865 per tackle
$55,652 per snap
That is a lot of money. Especially when you break it down like that. To earn this kind of money…the President would have to serve this country for 80 years. This much money could buy you 35,555 Super Bowl tickets valued at $900 each. For the foodies out there…this money could buy you 6,981,818 large Maryland crab at $55.lb.
Now…let’s have a little reality check here. Albert Haynesworth gets to play a game for a living. He gets to play football and makes money doing so. Clearly…a lot of money. Maybe he does not see it…but I do. Albert Haynesworth is blessed.
Maybe it is just easier to look at the negatives. Maybe it is just easier to overestimate ourselves and underestimate the great blessings that God has bestowed upon us.
I know at times…I fail to see the blessings in front of me. I guess it never matters how much you make or how blessed you are…you are bound to miss it every now and then. Maybe Haynesworth needs to step back and look at the rest of the world. Then he may see how blessed he is. Then again…maybe we all need to take that advice.
By the way…at $40/month…the money Haynesworth has earned thus far could feed 66,666 families of five through UmCor for one month.
